Cutting down a tree in Ottawa is not something that can be done on a whim.

The City of Ottawa has a comprehensive set of by-laws regulating tree removal in the city. In most cases, the city of Ottawa requires a permit to fell a tree with a diameter wider than 50 cm. Our Certified Arborists provide comprehensive reports which are used in the application for a city of Ottawa tree removal permit, called a “distinctive tree permit”. Based on your local municipal laws, you may be required to obtain a permit before removing a tree. In the city of Ottawa, a tree permit is required if the tree is over 50cm in diameter at chest height. In the township of Russell, you do not require a permit to cut down a tree.
